Essaouira الصويرة
After Marrakech…
We headed to the beautiful coastal town Essaouira about 200km west of Marrakech.
Transportation: we booked a privet car with a driver via Marrakech airport transfer website.
Duration: 2 nights (Oct. 25 - 27).
Hotel: Riad Watier
One of the best places I stayed at. The owner Ms.Hayat and the staff are amazing people you will feel like you’ve known them for a long time. We had a an unforgettable stay with them.
Library with old books and a seating area.
Ms. Yoda one of the friendliest staff, she loves to sit on this chair near the entrance.
Mr. Tagine the turtle always hiding behind the curtain.
Recommended places in Essaouira
Medina of Essaouira مدينة الصويرة
We LOVED Essaouira a lot; its vibe is very different from other Moroccan cities with its blue windows and doors, white walls, cats everywhere and streets full of colorful goods and carpets.
There is a cat in this photo, can you find it? :)
Just to the north of the city is the city walls with beautiful coastal views.
Essaouira Ramparts أسوار الصويرة
From here the whole city can be seen.
From this port, you can enjoy the sunset, watch seagulls flying all around you and the busy locals working with lots of blue fishing boats highlighting the background.
Just a few minutes walk from the fishing port is Essaouira’s beach.
If you can handle the smell of fish, paying a visit to the fish market could be an exciting experience. You can choose from a variety the fresh seafood, they will cook it for you, and you can eat at the market.
Shopping advice
Additionally, Essaouira is known for products made of Junipers wood, and it is, unfortunately, a craft that is facing extension. I recommend getting something made from it; it has a pleasant smell that lasts forever!
Events
Essaouira Atlantic Andalusia Festival is held every year in Essaouira in October to promote and celebrate Muslim- Jewish culture and exchange.
